Drama:Stories are explored using dress ups. Improvistaional games are played and some stories are centred around the big book for the month. The children will usually present a short play at the end of year mini-performance.
Music: Children will learn songs in sign language and learn to play a song on the recorder for an end of year mini-performance. Music is also used to assist their learning of numbers and letters.
Snack Time:This is a 10-15 minute break to relax and talk about healthy eating. Fruits and/or vegetables are encouraged. This is a time for talking and socialising.
Literacy & Math Games: Children will participate in a number of learning games on Fridays.
Sign Language: Children will learn their letters and sounds using "fingerspelling" (ASL alphabet) this will help improve their memory of what they are learning and involve them more in the learning process. Miss Jenny will also use some sign language while reading big books and singing songs. Children from a non- English speaking background or any children with verbal language delays will benefit greatly from being exposed to some sign language. It will help them to understand more what is being said and increase their verbal language skills.
For a more comprehensive view on the research behind the benefits of speaking and signing with all children, please visit my other website: www.tinyhandstalk.com
Free Time: This is a time to explore the many learning centres and to practice their social skills. Two riding balls will be shared to help children burn some energy also.
Celebrations: We love to celebrate Birthdays, Valentines day, Easter, Halloween, St. Patricks Day, Christmas etc. This will usually be done in the form of a small party, dressing up and a themed craft.
